Pronation: The Culprit behind most foot problems
It's the reason stores are opening up all over trying
to sell you a pair of orthotics. My practice opened up
in 1980 and I have been virtually only making cast-made
orthotics until the last 2 years when I realized that
the majority of my patients were only wearing my orthotics
some of the time because they only fit well in sneakers
and laced shoes.
I literally searched for 10 years to
find orthotics that would GO IN ANY SHOES (EVEN SANDALS
& HEELS) AND BE LESS EXPENSIVE. If you are like me,
once you start wearing these you won't want to be without
them! Not many of us were born with perfect feet! According
to studies, less than 10% of the world population would
have what is called a normal or neutral foot, meaning
a foot that does not require any special care or support
to maintain its shape when loaded with the body weight.
Dressthotics are inserts added to a footwear to support
the foot's natural structure. Your feet being the base
of support of your skeleton may affect the entire body
when tilted.
Even though dressthotics are not made from
a cast of a patient's foot, they have a lot of inherent
control and are very often the only type of orthotics
one needs. Though nothing can replace the accuracy and
individualism that is inherent in orthotics made from
casts of the foot, cast-made orthotics are often bulky
and not suitable for all dress shoes and are very expensive.
About 10 years ago, I realized that when I made orthotics
from a cast of people's feet, they would wear them in
sneakers and laced shoes and then be without them in all
their other shoes. I realized that pronation was only
being controlled some of the time and "to do right"
by my patients, I had to provide orthotics that could
be worn all the time. Therefore the best scenario would
be if the patient had 2 types of orthotics, one made from
a cast of the feet to go in laced shoes and sneakers (if
they had the type of problem that required cast-made orthotics)
and then another pair to go in dress shoes, sandals and
heels.
In my office when patients have a serious enough
problem to warrant cast-made orthotics, I make the casts
for the orthotics and then dispense the dressthotics that
go in dress shoes that same day so they can start wearing
orthotics immediately. Then when they get the orthotics
made from a cast of their foot, they have the versatility
of using either pair depending on the type of shoes they
are wearing. Sometimes the comfort that patients get from
the orthotics that go in dress shoes steer them into realizing
that orthotics made from a cast of their feet is the appropriate
direction for treatment especially if they get a percentage
of improvement but need something that is even more of
a prescription device for their specific problem.
For the vast majority of patients, I found that these orthotics
that go into dress shoes are all they need to completely
solve the problem of tired, aching feet and occasional
arch and heel pain. My goal is to make patients comfortable.
Our policy is that you may wear the dressthotics for 2
weeks and if you are not completely happy, return them
in good condition for a complete refund (minus the 10%
restocking fee, $13.00, and postage). Order your pair now!
