A podiatrist is a physician and surgeon of the foot who has been medically trained to treat the foot and lower leg. Dr. Elaine Shapiro believes in offering various modalities; i.e., preventive care, medical intervention and surgical treatment services.
Her practice began in 1980 and has grown because it is a reflection of a doctor constantly striving to provide the highest quality of health care in the field of podiatric medicine and surgery.
Dr. Shapiro is known for her dedication (and the number of hours she spends in the office). She has been known to remark, "I have been truly blessed because I love what I do."
Dr. Elaine Shapiro was brought up in New York City on Pelham Parkway in the Bronx. She attended Queens College. She was accepted in podiatry school after completing only 3 years of college. Following the years of study at the California College of Podiatric Medicine, she attended an externship in surgical residency at Northlake Illinois.
Her goal from almost the first day of podiatry school was to attend a residency, which was considered in the late '70's, as the finest surgical program in the United States; i.e. Northlake Community Hospital, Northlake, Illinois.
After completing her surgical residency at Northlake, she was given an opportunity in 1982 to join a practice in Tucson with a Pediatrician who had heard of her work in Illinois. In 1989 she decided to become a sole practitioner and opened an office on the northwest side of Tucson in the Ina Medical and Dental Plaza.
