Do I need a Metatarsal Contour in my DressThotics?
A metatarsal contour is a raise in the orthotic, i.e. a heightened area in the plate, just behind the ball of the foot or metatarsal heads which acts to lift up the metatarsal heads for various forefoot problems. People who have any forefoot problems should have their orthotic made with a metatarsal contour.
Patients who have tried on shoes that have an inherent metatarsal pad and just feel better with this contour should also get a metatarsal contour on their orthotic. Specific problems that would indicate a metatarsal contour on an orthotic would be people who have bunions, neuromas, ball of the foot pain, metatarsalgia, corns and calluses underneath any of the metatarsal heads.
